WickedWax Pictures proudly presents our new production: “Bloco de Rua”

A film shot on the streets of Rio de Janerio during the Carnaval of 2012 & 2013
The film atempts to portray the energy of the people of Rio during the celebration of their famous “Carnaval de Rua”. The film takes the viewer on a journey through the cities many bloco’s & streets, while the crew encounter various members of the public at the peak of their festive season. The film tries to capture the back beat of the city, the warmth, the joy, the rhythm and the many fantasies created for this earthquake of a party…

Introduction:

The Carnaval had been brewing up for nearly a year now, I was standing on the treshold of it and I was about to set out into ”Wonderland”. Infamous, overwhelming and intense, was words on people’s lips and now I wanted to feel the beat, myself. I’d never been a big fan of massive crowds, atleast not in sober condition. A man needed plenty of fuel to make it through the jungle. An heatwave of 38 degrees fired up the crowds. They went wild, took siege of each & every street, all over the city. The list of bloco’s was endless as the sun bolied the beer flowing through the veins of tourists and cariocas alike. People was to set themselves free from all sorrow. Rio was a city in the jungle and the wildlife could now be found right on your doorstep. I knew very little of what I was to find as I began my parade through the streets of Cidade Maravilhosa with my companion, lover & godmother of the bateria Bunny Mellow. She gave me a ride I will never forget…

The dead man & the dog is a film that portrays the relationship between a man and his crooked dog. The dog is said to be humankind’s best friend & companion. We follow the protagonists on a journey, as they struggle across the dunes, through the desert. A quest searching for one’s inner self, a lost oasis in a deserted landscape where there is nowhere to hide from the blazing rays of the sun…

The film was shot one evening in favela Santa Marta, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. The date was the 10th of January 2010. A film dealing with kids who fly kites. A cherrished pasttime among the young in favela Santa Marta. The film follows different characters on their quest to cut down their rivals out of the sky, high up in the free, above the skyline of southern Rio de Janeiro…

“Quest For The Sonic Bounty” comes with extensive Track Narratives…

“Back to the lab for another little tribute to good old Hollywood’s depiction of the iconoclastic Jamaican Gangster, and all the idiosyncracies associated therein. Those of you familiar with the classic video releases of the 80’s and 90’s may recognize the vibe here! A heavy rhythm plays as gun toting hoods battle it out with fast cars and serious repercussions! There’s no morals here my friend, unless of course you mean exacting revenge for the horrific ritualised torture of our nearest and dearest in the first reel. So if you’ve got a problem… work it out! We did, and as all good cinemagoers would advise, returned with the sequel! In the time-honoured fashion of the silver screen, we have hauled out the old original again, and tacked on a few extra bits for your pleasure… oh yes! In this specially extended album version we show you that crime really can pay… sure beats working!!”

“Quest For The Sonic Bounty” comes with extensive Track Narratives…

“For this semi-apocalyptic number, restructured here by Jay King and Benny ill at the mighty and relatively little known High Path Studio after a years hiatus, we have trawled our somewhat extensive vinyl archive once again to increase the nod-factor hinted at in our previous 12″ release. We hope that even the most sceptical of value hunters out there will appreciate the inclusion of this re-spin on the album.
Amongst a scenario of unleashed military power in a catastrophic and haunting future version, east meets west once again in our tale of impending doom and destruction with a subversive twist. Man’s last prayers fade away as he awaits the imminent nuclear fallout in the relative safety of inadequate and ill equipped shelter facilities that have suffered badly in the hands of generations of corrupt and greedy officials. As the numbed and blistered hands of the wretched and feeble survivors struggle to open canisters of long since expired mixed meat product, they can but dream of their impossibly difficult mission to reach those last bastions of hope, where the privileged few gorge themselves on a surplus of freeze dried Kobe steaks, the finest hyrdoponic vegetables and quaff endless vats of ’82 Petrus and ’75 Dom Perignon. You have been warned!
